Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice presidency and the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
